MARÍA JIMENA
ARTIST|SINGER-SONGWRITER & HOLISTIC VOCAL COACH
ABOUT
María Jimena Cortina is a Mexican–Costa Rican singer, songwriter, studio vocalist, interpreter, voice-over artist, actress, and certified Coach with NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). As a vocal coach, she is the creator of MetaCanto, a holistic vocal coaching method that integrates voice, breath, and somatic practices to help individuals unlock their authentic sound, transform emotions, and connect with others through presence. Her coaching practice began more than 10 years ago and has been progressively enriched by her experiences in the music and wellness industries, as well as continuous studies in which she has deepened her expertise. She has explored a wide spectrum of genres — opera, musicals, jazz, blues, folk, pop, rock, electronic, and singer-songwriter traditions — weaving them into a style marked by authenticity and emotional depth. In 2016 she was a semifinalist on The Voice Mexico, earning the International Gaviota Award “Demetrio Bilbatúa” that same year. She joined Alejandro Sanz’s “Sirope” tour as a guest performer in Mexico and was praised on national television by Gloria Trevi (“enormous voice, feeling, grit”), J Balvin (“artist, diva”), Paty Cantú (“left us on the verge of tears”), and Los Tigres del Norte (“beautiful voice, energy — the little golden one, she knocked it out of the park”). Her vocal and stylistic range has led her to collaborate with Grammy-winning producers and arrangers, as well as cultural figures in Mexico, Costa Rica, and beyond. Her music is available on all major streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, YouTube Music, iTunes). She is currently part of the cast of La Espada de Memorias, a musical theater production written and directed by Memo Méndez (Qué Plantón).
COACHING & META CANTO
Beyond her career as a performing artist, María Jimena has developed a strong trajectory as a holistic vocal coach.
She is the creator of MetaCanto, a unique method that combines music, voice, breath, somatic practices, and NLP coaching. MetaCanto helps people liberate their authentic voice, transform emotions, and experience deeper presence and connection — on stage, in community, and in life.
Her coaching practice, active for over a decade, bridges the music industry and the wellness field, making her equally at home in a concert hall, a festival, or a transformative workshop.
